hi bree

We got our dog - meet Bree! I can't thank Pat, Sara, Amy and especially Mary from Minnesota Sheltie Rescue enough for all of the time and care they put into matching Garrett and I with a dog. What a great group of passionate and caring people, I wish I dealt with more people like them on a daily basis. Being matched with a dog was a little like the real adoption process, there was an interview process and a home visit. These people really care that the dogs they work with get a good home.

Bree is helping to turn our home into a much happier place. I can't describe how rewarding it is to open the door to a smiling, goofy dog. You just can't help but smile yourself and be a bit goofy. Bree needs a lot of training. She's unfamiliar with walks on a leash and a lot of the basic commands. I'm giving her space to settle in, but we've already started to work on the leash training. Last night we got as far as the community garden. I'm hoping we can get to the walking paths along the river soon, but that will depend a lot on Bree.

I've pulled out some new yarn to start a project, not sure what yet, but something will appear on the needles soon.

I hope you are all having a good week. The weekend is very near!

  1. I was just admiring your photos of her on Flickr. Bree is just beautiful and will enrich your lives so much. Shelties are such elegant looking dogs. Gorgeous jewel toned wool, so looking forward to seeing what you make with this. Have a fabulous weekend.

PS: How is your cat adjusting to Bree?

    1. Thank you, Julie! So far Chewy and Bree seem to be at a silent stand off, they are each ignoring one another. I think Bree would like to get closer to Chewy, but Chewy is keeping her distance. It's fun to watch . . . we'll see how they're treating each other in a week or a month. By the end of the summer they will probably be snuggle buddies.

      Have a great weekend, too!

  2. Yeah - congratulations Jillian! Adopting a dog, if it is done the right way, should be an in-depth process. Some people laugh about how carefully I vetted the potential applicants for the dogs I brought over from Romania to foster, but why would you not? This is a life you are talking about, and if it is not a good fit, they would just end up back where they came from or worse. So glad that it sounds like Bree is doing well in your home. She is beautiful. And yes, they certainly bring life to a house!

  3. Welcome to the family, Bree. Luther doesn't know it yet, but he's very excited to meet her. It brings me so much joy to see how happy, by your words, that you are with her in your home. Give my love to Garrett, a belly rub for Bree, and scratch behind the ears for Chewy. :)

  5. It was wonderful to have Bree visit the farm today. She was so sweet and gentle - and absolutely beautiful. I know how much you loved your Siberian Husky - Cree, and I'm starting to see some of the same smile and joy in your eyes when your with little Bree. It looks like a win win for all of you - even Jack gave her the thumbs (paw) up!!!
