winter color

Up at the farm this weekend - looking for color in the winter landscape. There's about fourteen inches of snow on the ground. In some places a thick crust has formed on the snow, so I could walk on top of it for a few yards before breaking through to the powder beneath.

I ventured out with my camera this afternoon, hoping to snap some pretty pictures of the sheep and sunset. Well, the sunset wasn't that vibrant, so I was forced (challenged) to search out color in unexpected places - old farm equipment exposed to the elements, dried corn in the bright sunshine, a gang of skittish chickens that didn't want their pictures taken - but got one taken anyway.

We're still gathered around our dye pots here at the Crosby Hill Farm. I was happy to see several new colorways that Mom and Ashley brewed up a few weekends ago. We're calling the golden-orange skeins Dandelion Wine - which I'd love to brew this summer.

When the snow clears.

    1. I was thinking about the farm last night, as I got ready for bed - about how it's where I come from. Where we come from. It's nice to start exploring it again as an adult. Lots of work to do.

  2. You found some beautiful shots, even if the sunset wasn't cooperating! The sheep look cozy in their coats :)

    1. I like the rusted machinery shots the best. It's a shame that those pieces of equipment are going to turn to dust in the fields . . .
