I started a new project. A sweater for myself using yarn from our farm.

This sweater has been very popular on Ravelry, and I've seen a lot of flattering versions on other knitters, so I'm very excited to try this one out myself.

Ashley and I dyed some fiber this weekend. We're calling this colorway "Fairy Queen." The flashes of gold amongst the purples and deep blues remind me of something a fairy would wear.

Should be fun to spin up.

Labor Day usually signifies an end to summer for most. We start to pack away our summer skirts and pull out our wool socks and mitts. A crisp breeze means more time indoors, perhaps knitting and spinning, or just snuggled on the sofa with a hot cup of tea and a good book.

chickens are pretty

We went to the state fair today with my sister and brother-in-law. It was a nice day, so the fair was packed with people. Despite the fact that I was with three other adults we managed to lose each other in the crowd at least a half dozen times.

I liked the Arts and Crafts building (where one of my sister's quilts was hanging) and the Fine Arts building, but really after dealing with such massive numbers of people I feel like I can go without revisiting the fair for at least five years.

As you can see I finished my rooster booster sweater. It turned out soft and beautiful. It will be the perfect fall sweater for my niece.

This blend of 80% CVM Romeldale wool and 20% kid mohair is a joy to spin and the colorway is a constant adventure to knit.

camping with pirates

The big family get together was a wild rumpus of laughter, sunshine and game playing. Perfect weather allowed us to splash in the lake, sit up around the campfire and eat, eat, eat for two straight days. We came home tired and smelling of campfire smoke, but also recharged from family fun.

I jammed my ring finger playing volleyball . . . so I haven't been getting much knitting or blogging done, but it's healing up and I've been finishing some projects.

Red is always a good choice for buttons.

all the socks I've knit before

We're going camping this weekend, so I need something little that I can bring along to knit while we're sitting along the lake and around the camp fire.

I've been working on this project for a while: the "Barn-Raising Quilt" from Knitalong.

Here's to reconnecting with aunts and uncles and cousins (not to mention the kids of cousins) and relaxing in the north woods.

Morning showers and rain earlier in the week has made our backyard match the shades of this sweater. I feel blessed because I know most of the Midwest is not experiencing plush green lawns (without running up the water bill.)

Next week could be another story . . . but for today I'm enjoying the green grass under my bare feet and finishing up this baby sweater.

This yarn is from Briar Rose Fibers "Grandma's Blessing" !00% superwash merino - something I got ages ago at a fiber festival and decided to work with when I was looting my yarn stash last week.
